Unwind on Vine in Paso Robles, CA

-Occasionally, I need to get away and unwind.  Recently, Keys 2 the Coast discovered a great place in Paso Robles to escape to for a good time to rest and eat great food while staying at Unwind on Vine.

Casey and Caroline Shepherd are a young couple who own a management company called Paso Wine Country Rentals and they know how to make a rental feel like home.

Unwind on Vine is a charming two bedrooms, two bath house in a perfect spot to get away for a few days, in an idyllic setting in wine country. Unwind on Vine is within walking distance to the Paso Robles downtown city square, which is located at 12th and Park Street. The city square is loaded with excellent restaurants, fun shopping, antiques, unique boutiques and tasting rooms. In the center of the park, there are picnic tables and a place for families to play ball.

Talk about curb appeal…old-fashioned wooden rocking chairs are waiting on the quaint, shady porch for you to sip your morning coffee, overlooking other adorable homes on the street.

Open the door to a stunning, open floorplan, with a beautiful living room, dining room, and the spacious kitchen to make most envious.   Hardwood floors lead you through the home. Very comfortable, queen size beds ensure that you will get a great night sleep. Many small and interesting touches make this home a delight to make your own for a few days, such as thoughtful items, like closets and baskets that are loaded with extra pillows and other items to make your stay comfortable. The kitchen is well designed, with charcoal and earth tone marble countertops and Viking appliances and it is gorgeous. Old-world charm meets contemporary class and comfort.

This lovely home has ceiling fans in many of the rooms, air conditioning and heating and, best of all, a large rain shower in the well-appointed bathroom. And did I mention the option of having a bubble bath, in the claw-foot tub, at the end of a perfect day?

The property is at 1445 Vine Street at the corner of 15th Street and Vine.

If you enjoy shopping, Jayne is a quaint, little boutique on 12th Street, that has beautiful clothing and styles that you don’t normally see, as well as jewelry, Brighton purses and gift items from furry scarves to hats.

I stopped to have Brunch at an awesome little restaurant, called La Cosecha Bar and Restaurant.  It’s a small restaurant that is big on atmosphere and has a big city, downtown buzz. Craig Newman, the bartender, said…” I love working here. My co-workers are like good friends.” Craig makes a mean Bloody Mary. It is a work of art, loaded with lemon, lime, shrimp, crispy bacon and slices of jalapeño olives, celery and pickled onions.

Marshall Otwell, the piano player, Daryl VanDruff on drums and Kevin McDonald on Bass, rocked the house with good music, while artists in the kitchen created some impressive and delicious dishes, which I was told are local’s favorites, including Huevos Espano.  I ordered one of the best omelets I have ever eaten. It was scrumptiously loaded with house-made sausage, fontina cheese, red bell peppers, onions and generously topped with avocado.  I will go back to try other menus items.

Owners Carole and Santos MacDonal, opened the restaurant in 2013.  “Our goal was to create a New York or San Francisco style restaurant, that people will want to come back to again and again,” stated Carole. The brick walls and rustic, re-purposed wood, gives it a cozy, comfortable warmth.   Light fixtures are made with blown glass.

I have seldom been in a place where the employees and the other guests were so friendly.

Take a stroll around the businesses surrounding the park and do yourself a favor, by stopping into the Brown Butter Cookie Company. They have one other location in Cayucos and ship cookies to hundreds of people who became addicted while visiting Paso Robles.
