Arroyo Grande/Grover Beach
The Spoon Trade Restaurant at 295 West Grand Avenue in Grover Beach, at the corner of North 3rd, is a great place to eat, that is a stone’s throw from Grover Beach.
Owners Chef Jacob and his wife Brooke Town opened the restaurant on August 14, 2015. The two of them manage, work and run the kitchen. And I must say they do it well.
Lunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 10:10 am to 2:00 pm. Stop in for a fast, casual lunch, with an exceptional, yet limited menu. Think comfort food, with a twist.
The restaurant is open for dinner Monday through Friday from 4:00 pm to 9:00pm.
It’s a huge, open space with lots of windows, ceiling fans, and an energetic environment. There is a small, outdoor patio with heat lamps for chilly evenings. It’s a great place to sit outside and smell the ocean air. I know from experience, that If you stop in for a beer or glass of wine, the aromas will convince you to order.
For starters, try out the crushed avocado dip. It is served with Crisp Crunchy Crostini, orange oil, and sea salt. It is served chilled and let me tell you, it is delicious! You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the unique blend of flavors. The orange is distinct… I’m going to try this one at home.
Be forewarned, if you order the Crunchy Halibut Sliders, you will be forced to make audible, “yummy” sounds. Imagine a platter full of bite-size triangles of bread, topped with tender halibut, crispy-fried to perfection, with remoulade for dipping.
Spoon Trade prepares their Tuna Melts on grilled sourdough bread, bursting with fresh Tuna and cheddar cheese. It is a choice that’s sure to please. It’s the best Tuna melt that I have ever had!
They also Full-Service Brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. It is an A la carte menu and you must try the chicken & waffles.
Monday is Meatloaf Industry Night, where they celebrate the people in the industry and corkage fees are waived on this day only. They also have a $5 snack menu everyday from 4pm-5pm.
I like that the restaurant lends itself to meeting other guests at their large, community table. Nancy Underwood was at my table and she loved the Fried Green Tomato Sandwich, with Avocado spread, Burrata, and Arugula.
The food is exceptional, the presentation is artistic.
